Clothed with Strength and Dignity
"She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future."
— Proverbs 31:25
Since its inception in 2003, the Martha Mariyam Vanitha Samajam of St. Gregorios Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, Hosa Road, has remained a cornerstone of faith, fellowship, and service within the parish community. Rooted deeply in prayer and love, the Samajam continues to journey forward in the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, under the intercession of the Holy Mother, St. Mary, and inspired by the life and example of St. Gregorios of Parumala. It strives to build a Christ-centered community of women — strengthened through prayer, fellowship, and service, growing together in faith through the intercession and example of St. Mary.
The Samajam is committed to nurturing spiritual growth and unity among the women of the parish through regular prayer gatherings, Bible study, and fellowship. It extends compassionate support — spiritually, emotionally, and materially — to individuals and families in need within the church and the broader community. It also encourages women to participate actively in the spiritual, charitable, and cultural life of the church, thereby continuing the legacy of faith, dedication, and service established by its founding members.
Every week, following the Holy Qurbana, the members of the Samajam gather for prayer meetings and spiritual reflections that serve as moments of collective faith and renewal. They also organize charitable initiatives, food sales, and fundraising programs to support both parish and social causes. Members take part in Diocesan-level meetings, conventions, and cultural events, representing the parish with devotion and enthusiasm. During church feasts and major parish functions, they play a vital role in organizing, volunteering, and offering wholehearted service, thereby strengthening the spirit of unity and teamwork that defines their fellowship.
With over forty active members, the Martha Mariyam Vanitha Samajam meets every Sunday after the Holy Qurbana. Each gathering begins with a prayer song, followed by Bible reading, intercessory prayers to St. Mary, thought sharing, and group discussions. The sessions often include interactive and recreational activities and conclude with a closing prayer. These moments of togetherness bring spiritual refreshment and create bonds of love, empathy, and mutual support, making the Samajam a true home away from home for every woman who joins.
To sustain its charitable and developmental goals, the Samajam organizes three to four food sales each year, with proceeds directed towards charity, Samajam development, and cultural initiatives. Members also represent the parish in Diocesan-level programs, both online and offline, and are consistently recognized for their dedication, teamwork, and contributions. During feasts and major parish events, they play a leading role in food preparation, volunteering, and coordination, demonstrating their commitment to service and community welfare.
The Samajam functions under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Shibu George Pulayath as President, with Mrs. Daisy Mathew serving as Vice President, Mrs. Mini Thomas as Treasurer, Mrs. Sherin Mathew as Secretary, Mrs. Ency Elias as Joint Secretary, and Mrs. Sheela Eldho as Auditor.
